THE Challenge

AXA Personal Lines had been created through the merger of three very different businesses: AXA, Swiftcover.com and SIMS.

Each had its own history, habits and way of working. The task was not simply to “blend” them. It was to create a new culture that kept the best of each, reduced friction between them and made it easier to operate as one business

What we did

We started with the senior leadership team, working with them to define the culture they wanted to create and, crucially, how they needed to lead it.

From there, we rolled the work out across the business, running workshops involving more than 2,000 people, alongside 1:1 coaching, train-the-trainer support and practical help to turn the new culture into everyday behaviour.

At the same time, we built internal capability so the work would not depend on us. Senior leaders and trained change agents took increasing ownership, with support from us to embed the changes before we stepped away.

What changed

  • More than 2,000 employees engaged over 12 months

  • Three distinct cultures brought together around a shared way of working

  • Greater collaboration and ownership across the business

  • Leadership responsibility for culture embedded internally rather than outsourced
